banner 1

Yes, that’s right!! I’ve created a new blog!! I know it may sound really crazy to start from scratch but it feels right. I want one place to put all my passions into one…fashion, makeup, books, Disney and anything and everything else. I don’t want to have to fuss over 2 blogs now I’m in a full time internship which is keeping me on my toes. This move felt right and it would mean the world to me if you headed over to my new blog….www.sittingintheclouds.wordpress.com and give me a follow.

I won’t be posting as regularly but all the content will be the same sort of stuff as Mysterious Beauties, OOTDs, makeup reviews, lifestyle, you name it but combined with my content from The Mystery Reader so book reviews, book hauls, wrap ups, TBRs and anything book related.

I can not wait to embark on this new blog and I hope you guys can support me over on….

Sitting In The Clouds

One last thing…I want to thank you all for following and supporting me here on Mysterious Beauties for the past 2 years. It’s been incredible  and here’s to a new chapter of my blogging journey.

I’ll see you over on Sitting In The Clouds.

REVIEW: Bourjois Air Mat Foundation | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

I’m all about that matte finish and Bourjois is my favourite drugstore brand for foundations so their Air Mat foundation was a perfect combination….

__________________

When I saw Bourjois was coming out with a new foundation I had to get my hands on it. I love the L’Oreal True Match foundation but my holy grail will always be the Bourjois Healthy Mix, so when I saw they were coming out with a matte foundation I had to try it.

What does the packaging say?

As light as air, the formula glides onto the skin for perfect coverage & a flawless complexion. Enriched with mattifying micronized powders, it eliminates shine with no mask effect.

IMG_1877.JPG

Application: 5/5: I apply this foundation with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge. I find this is the best way to apply this foundation as it has quite a thick consistency and I feel with a damp sponge it creates a more natural look and doesn’t allow the product to be cakey.

Coverage: 5/5: I feel like this foundation gives medium coverage. In the picture below I’ve applied the foundation on the left side of my face only. As you can see my skin looks a lot more flawless on the left hand side but my dark circles are still not completely gone and some of my imperfections are still showing. However I do believe this foundation can be built upon for a higher coverage but just remember with this foundation Bourjois wanted it to feel “light as air” so I don’t think it will ever be a super high coverage foundation.

IMG_1850

The next picture shows the foundation applied over my entire face. As you can see this foundation is defiantly matte, which I love, as this picture was taken before I applied any powder. And as you can see the foundation has evened out my skin without looking like foundation, it really does feel like “second skin”. It’s also not at all tacky to the touch and really sinks into the skin.

IMG_1858.JPG

(I’m in the shade 02: Vanilla)

Colour Match: 4/5: I’ve always found that Bourjois matches my skin colour really well even though they don’t have a big range of colours (5 colours) so colouring matching with this foundation wasn’t too hard  for me as I just picked up the same colour I have in the Bourjois Healthy Mix. However, with only 5 shades in their range some people may find it hard to get their exact shade.

Blendability: 4/5: It blends really nicely into the skin when I use my RT sponge (damp). However I haven’t actually applied it with a brush so I don’t know how that would be but I prefer applying any foundation with a damp sponge as it creates a much more natural look.

IMG_1878.JPG

Lasting Power: 4/5: This foundation definitely lasts all day. It’s lasted an entire day at work for me (9-4pm but I apply it at 7 o clock in the morning) with one touch up of powder during the day because I was going somewhere after work but I don’t usually have to touch it up. However I don’t think it has 24hr hold which it does say it has.

Price: 4/5: £10.00 for 30ml…a little pricey but it wouldn’t stop me from repurchasing because it’s the same price as the Healthy Mix.

IMG_1880.JPG

_______________

Overall: I’m really liking this foundation. It’s exactly how I imagined it would be. It stays matte on my face all day. It’s a great natural looking, everyday foundation for work. It has the added extra bonus of having SPF10 in it which makes it great for a lightweight spring/summer foundation. The only downside I have is it’s only 30ml for £10.00 and I feel like it will run out fairly quickly seeing as I’ve been using it everyday.

I would definitely recommend you try this foundation if you’re a lover of matte finishes like I am.

Thank you for reading and supporting my blog. Have you tried this foundation? What are you thoughts on it? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time…

My BuJu: April Set Up | Mysterious Beauties

bullet journal.jpg

I’d be lost without my bullet journal…

____________________

You all seemed to enjoy my last couple of posts about my bullet journal so I thought it would be fun for you to see how I’ve set it up for April and what I’ve kept and changed.

Each month is always a different colour, February was pink because of Valentines Day and it seemed appropriate, March was green and April is purple. I love jazzing my bullet journal up with colour and this is just one of the ways I do that.

Want to see what pens I use in my bullet journal? Click here.

IMG_1881.JPG

I’ve kept my monthly view the same for April as I find this layout works best for me. At one glance I can see what I have going on, with the help of my colour coding (social: purple, hospital related things: pink, work: blue, tom: turquoise), and I can also see what tasks I want to complete during the month. The tasks on this page don’t have a specific day or week they need to be done, I just want to have them completed by the end of the month.

I’ve never looked at this monthly spread so much. Now I have a full time job (Monday-Friday, 9-4), I’m finding it hard to juggle work and my social life especially because all my friends are currently back home from uni and are returning soon, I’m trying to see them all before they head back. So this double page spread has come in really handy.

Turning over to the next page…

IMG_1882

On these two pages I keep my monthly trackers. I have a tracker (on the left) for all my personal “goals” such as exercise, reading, in bed by 10.30pm, awake by 9am etc. At the end of each day I colour in the habits I completed that day. I find this chart really useful especially for things such as “clean brushes” because I can see how often I’m cleaning my makeup brushes (I try to do it twice a month).

On the right hand is my blog tracker (I didn’t have room to write “tracker” so it’s “track”). Here I plan what blog posts are going up when and on what blog. I find this super helpful to have a quick glance as it helps me write my daily to-do lists to see what blog related stuff I need to get done each day like taking what pictures and writing the posts.

IMG_1884

If you saw my “How I Keep My Life Organised” post, you may have noticed I got rid of my “Keep In Contact” page. The page where I had a chart of all my closest friends and I could see how often I was seeing everyone. I found this was no longer helping me so I got rid of it. That’s what’s so good about bullet jounralling… if you try something one month and find you don’t like it you can get rid of it the next month.

So turning onto the next page…

After I’ve set up the three pages I have at the beginning of every month…my monthly spread, my monthly tracker and my monthly blog tracker, it’s time to start my daily to-dos.

This month I’ve tried to mix up my headers for each day as I was getting bored of doing a flag style every day. I’m loving how it’s turning out so far (if you would like another flick through at the end of the month to see all my different header designs…please let me know), it’s allowing me to be more creative which I love.

IMG_1885

On the right hand side is my work “tracker”. My work asked me to keep a track of the days I worked and when I finished each day as it does tend to change sometimes if I’m in the middle of a project, I’ll work until I’ve finished it which means I will finish at 4:30pm rather than 4pm some days.

If you were wondering I’m working as a Intern Graphic Designer and loving every minute of it.

I’m not a massive fan of my work tracker layout and I’m planning on figuring out a new one for May but it will do for this month. I have the dates of the month down the left hand side and I just write the times I worked next to it. The lines show the weekends.

__________________

So as you can see I keep my bullet journal fairly simple with hints of colour here and there. Obviously April is based around the colour purple which I’m really liking.

I hoped you enjoyed today’s post. If you did and want to see more on my bullet journal please let me know by giving this post a like. I find my bullet journal so helpful to keep track of everything and I’m so much more organised with it. If you’re struggling to find a planner perfect for you, I would highly recommend trying out the bullet journal.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog.

Until next time…

The Walt Disney World Tag

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

Disney has been a part of my life since I was 6 weeks old when my parents took me to Disneyland Paris, or as it was called back then…Euro Disney…so I thought this tag was very fitting…

______________________

First time you went to Walt Disney World?

The first time I went to Walt Disney World was in 2000 when I was 3 years old. Unfortunately I don’t remember any of it, I have a bad enough memory as it is, I can barely remember what I did yesterday let alone 16 years ago. However, thanks to my parents recording it all and taking pictures I can look back on the memories we created as a family and smile knowing I was there and a part of that magical vacation.

(here’s a video of my first time visit to Walt Disney World, meeting Tigger at Crystal Palace)

Favourite Park?

Has and will always be Magic Kingdom. It’s my family’s tradition to make Magic Kingdom our first park every time we go to Walt Disney World. And also, I just find that the Magic Kingdom is just the most “disney” and magical.

332751_3935664588084_194765003_o.jpg

Favourite land in Magic Kingdom?

It’s a tricky one, obviously I love them all but I think I’d have to choose Tomorrowland. It has some of my all-time favourite rides in the whole resort including Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter, Buzz and Speedway.

Favourite Disney resort hotel?

Port Orleans French Quarter. It’s the resort we have stayed at the most times. It’s the perfect size for us as my family find many of the resorts way too big with way too many bus stops. French Quarter only has one bus stop which we love. It has boat transportation down to “Disney Springs”…it’s still called Downtown Disney to me. The theming is great, it’s one of the more affordable resorts and it’s fairly central to all the parks so the bus ride to any of them is never too long.

Favourite Snack?

Either the frozen banana or the ice-cream sold at the top of Main Street USA where in your ice-cream you get two chocolate buttons to make Mickey Ears…never too much Disney.

Favourite Souvenir?

My family and I used to be avid pin collectors but I’ve kind of grown out of that. I love buying Disney soft toys because who doesn’t? Last time I went to WDW I spent 50 dollars on a Stitch Plush and a Duffy costume for him so I could dress him up as Sully.

Favourite Counter-Service/Table Service?

Favourite counter service is probably Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom. My favourite table service is probably the Sci-Fi Diner in Hollywood Studios as I think the theme is amazing. You sit in cars and there’s a big screen where you watch old short films and adverts while you eat.

319848_3171447803142_1475533665_n.jpg

Favourite Ride?

Ah I can’t just choose one, that’s impossible. Toy Story Mania is awesome. I love Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster. I love Under The Sea: The Journey of The Little Mermaid. I love Astro Orbiter, it’s always one of the rides we hit on our first day of the holiday. There’s too many to pick just one. I love Test Track in Epcot and as well as the Safari in Animal Kingdom.

Favourite Show?

I loved watching people audition at the American Idol Experience when it was there but that venue has now been turned into a Frozen: Sing-a-long…I think that’s a little too much. But my favourite actual show is Dream Along With Mickey…I just love that music so freaking much. But I also love the Finding Nemo Musical and The Festival of The Lion King in Animal Kingdom.

Favourite Parade/Fireworks?

My favourite parade is the Move It Shake It Dance and Play It Street Party in the Magic Kingdom. And of course my favourite firework display is Wishes! Me and my family have been to WDW over New Years Eve multiple times now and the “Wishes” display then is incredible. It’s a 360 degrees display and you’re surrounded by fireworks. If you can go to WDW for New Years Eve, even though it may be hectic, like incredibly hectic, I would highly recommend it.

Favourite Pavilion at Epcot?

Probably Japan. Not gunna lie I love it because of the sweet shop section.

What colour was your last magic band?

Yellow…my sister stole the pink one.

Favourite character to meet?

The Mad Hatter. Once we met him at a character buffet breakfast and my sister, seeing as it was her birthday, had ice-cream so the Mad Hatter took her spoon…full of ice-cream and put it on her nose….one of the best character meets me and my family have ever had we were laughing our heads off.

A character you haven’t met but want to?

BAYMAX!!!!! Nothing else needs to be said…who doesn’t want to meet a giant marshmallow.

Your best Disney memory?

WOW! Too many to choose from. Every time I go to Disney, whether that’s Walt Disney World or one of the Disneylands, I always create so many magical memories I can’t just choose one so here are some of the edits I’ve created over the years. So click a link  that takes your fancy and experience my memories with me.

The Easter Bunny Spoilt Me | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

while we’re stuffing our faces with chocolate today let’s not forget the real meaning of easter…

______________________

*disclaimer: just wanted to say Easter obviously isn’t about the chocolate and gifts we receive, it has a much more deeper meaning, resurrection of Jesus, but as I love photography I had to take pictures because that’s who I am. I’m not bragging in any way, shape or form, I just love getting creative with photography and love showing you guys the photos I take*

My boyfriend and I decided to swap gifts on Good Friday because we were both too eager to wait until today….typical.

Tom —-> Me

IMG_1830.JPG

Chocolate galore

IMG_1836.JPG

Minnie Mouse dressed as a bunny…very appropriate and lots more chocolate…43 chocolate eggs to be exact

IMG_1835.JPG

Beautiful Pandora earrings…can’t explain how much I love these

IMG_1837.JPG

and you can’t go wrong with a Pooh Bear Tsum Tsum

Tom also got a a Stitch mug and if you know me, which he does, Stitch + a mug = a perfect gift for me. But because I’ve used it already today it’s in the dishwasher so I was unable to take a picture of it.

Tom and I are very similar in the fact that any chance we get we will go overboard on the gifts as we love treating each other, it’s just in our personalities that we would rather spend our money on other people than ourselves.

Me —> Tom

I decided to treat Tom with an Easter basket which included all his favourite chocolate and some Nerds of course, a big Choc-A-Block Easter Egg, a photo frame with my favourite picture of us in it. Some Star Wars Decal stickers for his laptop and The Legend of Zelda book.

Unfortunately I forgot to photograph the separate gifts but the presentation, if I do say so myself, was amazing so I just took pictures of that.

What’s your favourite Easter chocolate? Are you a Cadbury or Galaxy person? Personally it depends on what mood I’m in but I do tend to gravitate towards Cadbury but every time I get Galaxy I forget how creamy and amazing their chocolate is.

I hope you all had a great Easter and whether you properly celebrate it or it’s just a day to stuff your face with chocolate and not feel guilty I hope it was a good one.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. I hope you enjoyed today’s post and if you did be sure to give it a like and follow me so you never miss another one of my blog posts.

On Tuesday my boyfriend and I decided to have an adventure and go and visit my all time favourite Disney character…Winnie The Pooh and I decided to inspire my outfit around one of the most well know bears in the world….

I tried to incorporate red and yellows into my outfit as they are Winnie The Poohs signature colours.

We went on the perfect day, it was surprisingly warm for March in the UK and the sun shone so with tights and a long sleeve dress I never felt a chill. But with the checkered shirt around my waist I had an extra layer just in case.

And of course my boyfriend being as cute as he is brought me an Eeyore from “Poohs Corner Shop” before we went to play Pooh Sticks on the famous Pooh Stick Bridge.

If you’re a fan of Winnie The Pooh I would definitely recommend going to visit Ashdown Forest, the forest where A.A.Milne got the inspiration for Hundred Acre Wood. Tom and I brought a picnic and ate it in the Enchanted Woods and it was just a perfect day.

My Holy Grail Products | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage

My last post…“My New Holy Grail Concealer” got a lot of love so I thought I’d share more of my holy grail products with you all…

__________________

Every product in this post I love and will or have already repurchased so there is no point repeating myself with every product. I have 8 products to share with you ranging from hair care, skincare and makeup so let’s get started…

Skincare:

Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty – a great face mask to help reduce and get rid of any blemishes. I tend to use this once a week even if I don’t actually see any spots but to just keep them at bay. I’m currently on my second tub, this product lasts a while, make sure you get the “self-preserving” tub as it has a longer use by date. (review here)

Simple’s Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash – my everyday face wash. It makes my skin feel really refreshed and I’ve found that my makeup is staying longer since using this face wash and I think it’s because of the “oil balancing” element within the face wash. (this product features in my “top 5 products I would repurchase“)

Garnier Miceller Cleansing Water – every beauty bloggers holy grail product for removing makeup.

IMG_1698.jpg

Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturizer –  A great all round daily face cream. It lightweight, it soaks into the skin quickly which means I can apply my makeup straight after and it has SPF 15 in it so it makes it a not only a great all year round face cream but it’s essential for me in the summer.

Nivea Lip Butter – The Vanilla and Macadamia is my favourite scent. Since using this product I haven’t experienced the dry lips I used to have. It’s such a creamy formula that I only need to apply it twice a day (morning and night) to keep my lips moisturized through-out the day.

Both of these products feature in my “top 5 products I can’t live without“.

IMG_1697.jpg

Hair care:

Lush’s American Cream – This is a recent discovery of mine. I found out about it at the very end of last year but it’s been my go-to conditioner ever since. I’m currently on my second bottle (500g) after finishing off my 250g bottle. I had really dry ends before using this product and now my hair is a lot more smooth and silky and plus it makes your hair smell incredible.

IMG_1689.jpg

Makeup:

I’ve raved so much about these last two products…

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – My all-time favourite mascara and I don’t think it will be changing any time soon. It adds volume and length to my lashes as well as keeping the curl in them all day. With one layer it makes your lashes look super natural for an everyday look or you can layer it and build it up for a nighttime look with more volume. (review here)

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer – My new holy grail concealer. Hear me rave all about it in a blog post here.

IMG_1701.jpg

All these products are from the drugstore so they are all very affordable which is what I love about them. I rarely buy high-end skincare or makeup unless it’s eye shadow palettes which I think are worth the extra money but other than that I stick to the drugstore because they have some amazing products and this blog post only showcases a small handful of drugstore gems.

My New Holy Grail Concealer | Maybelline Age Rewind | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

this concealer has taken the spot from the Collection Lasting Perfection as my holy grail concealer…

_________________

IMG_1674.JPG

no makeup/before application

Application: 4/5:  I find the application to this concealer super easy and I think that’s because the sponge dome. It allows the product to glide onto the skin with ease and the twistable neck on the bottle to get the product out allows you to use all the product up before throwing it away and overall I love applying this concealer. The only let down is that the sponge dome, no matter how easy it makes the product to apply, it’s quite unhygienic when you think about it.

IMG_1664

Blendability: 5/5:  I blend this concealer out with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge. I just think a damp sponge allows all products, foundations and concealers to look more flawless on the skin. The concealer is super easy to blend and I think that’s a mixture of the damp sponge and how smooth the formula of the concealer is.

Coverage: 5/5: This concealer has a light to medium coverage. For me it’s perfect for everyday use and I can use it on it’s own if I don’t want to apply foundation but it can also be built up with foundation for a higher coverage. It does what I want it to, it covers my dark circles but also allows my skin to still look natural.

Formula: 5/5: The formula is super smooth and creamy and it feels super lightweight on the skin. Nothing to complain about it.

IMG_1675

I wear the colour “light”

Long Lasting: 4.5/5:  If you set it in place with powder, which I do, I never miss applying powder in my makeup look, it lasts pretty much all day. I’ve never been one to top up makeup through-out the day and this concealer does wear as the day goes on but not so much that it’s not visible at the end of the day. It also never cakes or creases under my eyes.

IMG_1677.JPG

after application – this is just with the concealer under my eyes and my skin already looks way more flawless and I look a lot more awake.

Packaging: 4/5: It’s simple packaging and there’s nothing much to say about it. It’s easy to travel with and I like how it has a twistable neck so you can use this concealer right up to the last bit of product if you just keep twisting.

IMG_1662.JPG

Price: 4/5: It retails at £7.99 which I don’t think is too much for a good concealer at the drugstore but compared to my old holy grail at £3.99..ish, it’s double the price but that’s the only issue I have.

_____________________

Overall: 4.5/5: I really like this concealer and I think it does a great job at concealing my dark circles and any imperfections I have. I’m currently using my second bottle of the product and I will keep repurchasing until I find another great concealer but for the time being I’m loving this one and don’t see me switching things up for a while. The only let down is the sponge applicator and how it’s quite unhygienic even if it does allow the product to be applied with ease.

Empties #1 | February | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage

I usually throw away all my empty products so it’s rare that I can actually write one of these posts…

_______________

February seemed to be the month where I ran out of all my holy grail products which meant my bank balance suffered. However, when a product you truly love runs out you literally run out to go buy another one.

The first product to see the end of the tunnel was “Rub Rub Rub” from Lush Cosmetics. I brought this after a recommendation I got from my best friend so I was in safe hands because we love pretty much all the same things. She raved about Rub Rub Rub but after trying it I didn’t like it much.

I did however finish the pot so it could go towards my free face mask. Once you’ve collected 5 empty tubs from Lush you get a free face mask, I now only need 2 more. However, I wouldn’t repurchase this as I much prefer Ocean Salt and that product is a face and body scrub.

I only recently discovered the “Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Intensive Mask” and I’m in love with this product. I rave about it here. I really think this product does what it says on the tub and for just over £4.00 you really can’t go wrong.

I will defiantly be repurchasing this…when I have money because at the moment all my money seems to going towards my car.

I ran out of my holy grail mascara, the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I already had a back up tube ready for me so I didn’t need to panic when I ran out. I’ve repurchased this mascara about 5 times now…I love it!! Review here.

After finishing this product I realised just how good it was and what a wonderful job it did covering up my dark circles. This concealer, the Maybelline The Eraser Eye, is my new holy grail concealer. It has an amazing creamy formula which allows you to blend it easily and with the applicator, a sponge dome, it makes it super easy to apply.

I will definitely be, and have already, repurchasing this item.

(sorry for the change of lighting in the next couple of photos…these products were taken on a different day)

I’m the type of person who loves trying new skincare and when I run out of a face wash I tend to pick up something new and try it. However, after discovering the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash, I keep repurchasing it. Read about it in “top 5 products I would repurchase”

The bottle shown is my second one and I really need to go out and buy another one asap. Lush’s Ocean Salt will have to cover me for a few days until I get paid though.

The final product I ran out of this month is my go-to dry shampoo. I think Bastiste is the best brand for dry shampoo. Not only does it make your hair feel fresh but it adds volume and I love the fact they have formulas for us dark haired girls who struggle with blending in all the white specs you get with other dry shampoos.

I have other dry shampoos I can use now this one as run out but the Bastiste Dry Shampoo for Dark & Deep Brown will always be one I come back to time and time again.
