My Holy Grail Products | Mysterious Beauties

My last post…“My New Holy Grail Concealer” got a lot of love so I thought I’d share more of my holy grail products with you all…

Every product in this post I love and will or have already repurchased so there is no point repeating myself with every product. I have 8 products to share with you ranging from hair care, skincare and makeup so let’s get started…

Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty – a great face mask to help reduce and get rid of any blemishes. I tend to use this once a week even if I don’t actually see any spots but to just keep them at bay. I’m currently on my second tub, this product lasts a while, make sure you get the “self-preserving” tub as it has a longer use by date. (review here)

Simple’s Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash – my everyday face wash. It makes my skin feel really refreshed and I’ve found that my makeup is staying longer since using this face wash and I think it’s because of the “oil balancing” element within the face wash. (this product features in my “top 5 products I would repurchase“)

Garnier Miceller Cleansing Water – every beauty bloggers holy grail product for removing makeup.

Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturizer –  A great all round daily face cream. It lightweight, it soaks into the skin quickly which means I can apply my makeup straight after and it has SPF 15 in it so it makes it a not only a great all year round face cream but it’s essential for me in the summer.

Nivea Lip Butter – The Vanilla and Macadamia is my favourite scent. Since using this product I haven’t experienced the dry lips I used to have. It’s such a creamy formula that I only need to apply it twice a day (morning and night) to keep my lips moisturized through-out the day.

Both of these products feature in my “top 5 products I can’t live without“.

Hair care:

Lush’s American Cream – This is a recent discovery of mine. I found out about it at the very end of last year but it’s been my go-to conditioner ever since. I’m currently on my second bottle (500g) after finishing off my 250g bottle. I had really dry ends before using this product and now my hair is a lot more smooth and silky and plus it makes your hair smell incredible.

I’ve raved so much about these last two products…

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – My all-time favourite mascara and I don’t think it will be changing any time soon. It adds volume and length to my lashes as well as keeping the curl in them all day. With one layer it makes your lashes look super natural for an everyday look or you can layer it and build it up for a nighttime look with more volume. (review here)

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer – My new holy grail concealer. Hear me rave all about it in a blog post here.

All these products are from the drugstore so they are all very affordable which is what I love about them. I rarely buy high-end skincare or makeup unless it’s eye shadow palettes which I think are worth the extra money but other than that I stick to the drugstore because they have some amazing products and this blog post only showcases a small handful of drugstore gems.

My New Holy Grail Concealer | Maybelline Age Rewind | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

this concealer has taken the spot from the Collection Lasting Perfection as my holy grail concealer…

no makeup/before application

Application: 4/5:  I find the application to this concealer super easy and I think that’s because the sponge dome. It allows the product to glide onto the skin with ease and the twistable neck on the bottle to get the product out allows you to use all the product up before throwing it away and overall I love applying this concealer. The only let down is that the sponge dome, no matter how easy it makes the product to apply, it’s quite unhygienic when you think about it.

Blendability: 5/5:  I blend this concealer out with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge. I just think a damp sponge allows all products, foundations and concealers to look more flawless on the skin. The concealer is super easy to blend and I think that’s a mixture of the damp sponge and how smooth the formula of the concealer is.

Coverage: 5/5: This concealer has a light to medium coverage. For me it’s perfect for everyday use and I can use it on it’s own if I don’t want to apply foundation but it can also be built up with foundation for a higher coverage. It does what I want it to, it covers my dark circles but also allows my skin to still look natural.

Formula: 5/5: The formula is super smooth and creamy and it feels super lightweight on the skin. Nothing to complain about it.

I wear the colour “light”

Long Lasting: 4.5/5:  If you set it in place with powder, which I do, I never miss applying powder in my makeup look, it lasts pretty much all day. I’ve never been one to top up makeup through-out the day and this concealer does wear as the day goes on but not so much that it’s not visible at the end of the day. It also never cakes or creases under my eyes.

after application – this is just with the concealer under my eyes and my skin already looks way more flawless and I look a lot more awake.

Packaging: 4/5: It’s simple packaging and there’s nothing much to say about it. It’s easy to travel with and I like how it has a twistable neck so you can use this concealer right up to the last bit of product if you just keep twisting.

Price: 4/5: It retails at £7.99 which I don’t think is too much for a good concealer at the drugstore but compared to my old holy grail at £3.99..ish, it’s double the price but that’s the only issue I have.

Overall: 4.5/5: I really like this concealer and I think it does a great job at concealing my dark circles and any imperfections I have. I’m currently using my second bottle of the product and I will keep repurchasing until I find another great concealer but for the time being I’m loving this one and don’t see me switching things up for a while. The only let down is the sponge applicator and how it’s quite unhygienic even if it does allow the product to be applied with ease.

Have you tried this product? Let me know in the comments your thoughts on it. Do you think it lives up to the hype it has?

Empties #1 | February | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage

I usually throw away all my empty products so it’s rare that I can actually write one of these posts…

February seemed to be the month where I ran out of all my holy grail products which meant my bank balance suffered. However, when a product you truly love runs out you literally run out to go buy another one.

The first product to see the end of the tunnel was “Rub Rub Rub” from Lush Cosmetics. I brought this after a recommendation I got from my best friend so I was in safe hands because we love pretty much all the same things. She raved about Rub Rub Rub but after trying it I didn’t like it much.

I did however finish the pot so it could go towards my free face mask. Once you’ve collected 5 empty tubs from Lush you get a free face mask, I now only need 2 more. However, I wouldn’t repurchase this as I much prefer Ocean Salt and that product is a face and body scrub.

I only recently discovered the “Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Intensive Mask” and I’m in love with this product. I rave about it here. I really think this product does what it says on the tub and for just over £4.00 you really can’t go wrong.

I will defiantly be repurchasing this…when I have money because at the moment all my money seems to going towards my car.

I ran out of my holy grail mascara, the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I already had a back up tube ready for me so I didn’t need to panic when I ran out. I’ve repurchased this mascara about 5 times now…I love it!! Review here.

After finishing this product I realised just how good it was and what a wonderful job it did covering up my dark circles. This concealer, the Maybelline The Eraser Eye, is my new holy grail concealer. It has an amazing creamy formula which allows you to blend it easily and with the applicator, a sponge dome, it makes it super easy to apply.

I will definitely be, and have already, repurchasing this item.

(sorry for the change of lighting in the next couple of photos…these products were taken on a different day)

I’m the type of person who loves trying new skincare and when I run out of a face wash I tend to pick up something new and try it. However, after discovering the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash, I keep repurchasing it. Read about it in “top 5 products I would repurchase”

The bottle shown is my second one and I really need to go out and buy another one asap. Lush’s Ocean Salt will have to cover me for a few days until I get paid though.

The final product I ran out of this month is my go-to dry shampoo. I think Bastiste is the best brand for dry shampoo. Not only does it make your hair feel fresh but it adds volume and I love the fact they have formulas for us dark haired girls who struggle with blending in all the white specs you get with other dry shampoos.

I have other dry shampoos I can use now this one as run out but the Bastiste Dry Shampoo for Dark & Deep Brown will always be one I come back to time and time again.

I don’t tend to do these sorts of posts often so if you enjoyed it please let me know by giving it a like and I will try and remember to save my empty products for more posts like this in the future.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog, it means the world. I can’t believe I have just passed 470 followers…crazy!!

Anyway, until next time…

xoxo, rachel

The Lush Tag | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

I think every beauty blogger and their mums are fans of LUSH cosmetics…

I’ve seen this tag go round the blogosphere recently and wanted to join in the fun. I absolutely love Lush cosmetics and am always adding to my collection. I can’t get enough of their scents and cute designs.

This tag was created by “Lush Upon A Time” .

My first ever Lush bath bomb was Butterbear which is exclusive to the Christmas/Festive period but they do an all year round Butterball which is the same scent and does the same thing it’s just a different shape.

My first ever bubble bar was Candy Mountain….I first started becoming obsessed with Lush over the Christmas period so a lot of my firsts are exclusive to the festive season.

I have yet to try a massage bar. I don’t think it they are my sort of thing, but if you have any suggestions/recommendations on where to start with these, let me know.

Again, I haven’t tried any of their Kitchen range and is it really stupid of me that I didn’t even know this existed until now? It sounds fun to explore though.

My first shower gel I tried was Dirty Springwash  and although I haven’t tried many others, The Comforter Shower Cream and Twilight are the only other two I have tried but I really dislike the smell of the Twilight one. Dirty Springwash will always be an all time favourite.

Have yet to try any of their shower jellies. Let me know your suggestions.

The first face mask I tried of theirs was the Mask of Magnaminty. I tried my friends at her house when I was round for a sleepover and then I loved it so much I brought my own and at the same time I got the Catastrophe Cosmetic.

The first bar of soap I tried was the Rock Star soap which is exclusive to the Christmas collection and although I love the smell, I hate the shape of the soap and think this is a major let down to the overall product.

My favourite Lush store hands down has to be the brand new one in Oxford Street. I’m lucky enough that it’s easy for me to get to because it sells pretty much everything as well as exclusive products to that store. I just love how big and spacious it is. I just wouldn’t recommend going on a weekend if you can help it…it can get a little manic

Their bath bombs are what I’m tried most so I have a few favourites. Butterbear/Butterball will always be one I go back time and time again to but I also love the Yoga bath bomb because of it’s many layers and how it explodes in your bath with all the different colours.

My favourite bubble bar is definitely Pop In The Bath. I just love how it colours your water, creates immense bubbles…perhaps that because I use the entire thing in one go but I just think that makes for one epic bath, and I feel like it softens your skin as well. Its just a well rounded product.

Haven’t tried any so I have no favourite.

Haven’t tried any so I have no favourite.

Definitely, Dirty Springwash. I just love how it smells of soft mints.

Haven’t tried any of I have no favourite.

It seems that all my favourites tend to be the first products that I try because after trying  Catastrophe Cosmetic, Cranberry (review here) and Mask of Magnaminty (review here), Mask of Magnaminty will always be my favourite.

I picked up, or shall I say my boyfriend brought me the Tweet Bubble Bar but it doesn’t seem to be on their website, it’s like it doesn’t exist? It’s basically a cute little orange bird with smells so strongly of oranges and I can’t wait to try it. I’m thinking of having a bath tomorrow and trying it out so if you would like a “first impressions” type post of this product, let me know by commenting or liking this post.

Anyone as much in love with Lush as I am.

Thanks for reading and supporting. I hope you enjoyed this post and if you did be sure to give it a like.

What’s your all time favourite Lush product? I would love to know.

Until next time…

xoxo, rachel

As Soon As I Saw You…

Hey lovelies,

I didn’t have anything planned to post today because I’ve been super busy recently. It’s partly because I’ve finally come through the recovery tunnel after my transplant and I’m now feeling 100% to do almost everything and I have so much energy that I’ve never had before so I’ve been making so many plans because I no longer want to waste a day in my life because previously I was sleeping like 21 hours each day because I was so ill. And being busy is also partly because of one guy….

Winnie the Pooh has always been my all time favourite Disney character from the offset of loving Disney…which has been my entire life. My childhood bedroom has Pooh Bear bed sheets and pillows, curtains, wallpaper...the works. And only recently has this quote from Winnie the Pooh become to mean so much to me.

I can’t wait to see what other adventures the future has for us and to create memories not only with Tom but my family and friends too.

I was just feeling so thankful today not just because of my mum, which by the way…

Happy Mothers Day. My mum has been a rock to be through such a tough time in my life and while I was going through my transplant other family members had serious health issues as well and she was so strong and stayed so positive.

I love my mum and wouldn’t wish for anyone else to be by my side everyday of my life.

So yeah I was just feeling very thankful for everyone in my life today and I think the Winnie the Pooh quote can mean that I can have adventures with everyone in my life and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there. Who are you thankful for?

Until next time…

xoxo, rachel

February Favourites | Mysterious Beauties

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

February has come to an end and March only means one thing…we are officially in spring…

I rarely do monthly favourite posts because I find it difficult to decipher which products I love from one month to the next, they all kind of just blur into one. But in February I have been gravitating towards certain products that I’ve either picked up during the month or have just used so often I know February was the month I started loving them.

The first favourite is the Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 1 eye shadow palette.

(see this palette being used here)

I’m a sucker for Makeup Revolution products, especially when it comes to their eye shadow palettes. I particularly love this one as the colours are very neutral…which I love as I always go for a warm toned eye look, there’s a mixture of matte and shimmery colours and the colour pay off is great for the price you pay.

My next favourite has allowed my eye shadow to look more vibrant and stay longer and that product is the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Creme De Nude. I think this product is a perfect dupe for Mac’s Painterly Paint Pot.

It covers up your veins and gives a great base for your eye shadows. I have also noticed that my eye shadows blend a lot nicer with this product as the base.

(see what other products I brought alongside this one here)

I have also nearly used up an entire bottle of Zoella’s Lets Spritz Body Mist. I love the smell of this body spray I just wished it lasted longer on the body. I seem to have to top it up quite often and I think that’s why I have gone through nearly the entire bottle in a month.

(full review here)

I used to love applying a black eye liner to my waterline to make my eyes more define and then I stopped applying any eyeliner for ages until this month. I’ve been loving applying the MUA eyeliner in Rich Brown to my waterline recently. It allows me to define my eyes without it looking too “gothic” and harsh.

It doesn’t last all day but it doesn’t smudge under your eyes either unless you do it yourself. It also has it’s own sharper which I think it is a great added extra and plus for £1…you can’t go wrong.

I have been loving how versatile the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is. When I first purchased it I used it to apply my foundation and it worked a treat for that as it applies and buffs your foundation in at the same time. However, fairly recently…the past few days, I have been using it to contour. It works wonders at applying it as the shape of the brush is the perfect size to fit into the hollows of your cheeks.

If you didn’t know something about me, it’s that I’m a major bookworm and read and 4/6 books a month. This month my favourite book was “Fat Dad Fat Kid” by Shay and Gavin Butler and I gave it a full 5/5 stars.

(You can read my full review on my book blog here)

I did some really exciting things this month and I also have some things to look forward to in March and the following months so I thought I’d start a “moments of the month” section (it will either appear by itself or in a monthly favourites post) and share with you guys what I have been up to and some pictures that I captured while I made memories with my friends and family.

I started going out with the most amazing guy…no I’m not blushing while writing this 😛

I went to go see DeadPool with Tom….the guy in the picture above. It was hilarious and a must-watch if you haven’t see it already.

black and white.jpg

I had many sleepovers and nights out with my best friend Amy, making coffee cake and watching If I Stay and even if the night doesn’t end up the way we planned I always have the best time. I would not change my best friend for the world and I’m incredibly happy she decided to stay at home while attending uni allowing me to see her way more often than I would if she moved out.

(Amy if you’re reading this, I love you)

My mum and I went to go and see the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour. I had a great night even if I didn’t get to meet Jake Wood.

I went to go and see End Of Longing with my friend Becca. And yes we met Matthew Perry and I still can’t believe it. Only 5 more to meet and my lifetime wish will be complete.

Yes, my lifetime wish is to meet the entire FRIENDS cast.

And the final really exciting thing I did this month, well really it was March 1st but that’s still practically February….isn’t it?

I went to go and see War Horse for the 6th and final time as it’s closing with my boyfriend, Tom. We decided to make a day of it and spend it in London, shopping and eating before seeing the show. It was a great day.

(playing in the Disney store… and yes he’s wearing pineapple socks and yes he was adorable and brought me the Winnie the Pooh dressed up a lamb as well as a Simba pillow)

(tucking into some well deserved milkshakes)

(and finally it’s time to see the show)

February gave me some amazing memories as well as discovering some amazing products. Let me know what you’ve been loving this month and what you got up to, I would love to know.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. Be sure to give this post a like if you enjoyed it and liked my new section…”moments of the month” because I want you guys to start getting to know me on a more personal level and sharing with you what I got up to during the month I feel is a great way of doing that.

Until next time…

xoxo, rachel

OOTD: Feeling Like A Superhero | Mysterious Beauties

ootd banner.jpg

Today the sun shone, even it was only for a couple of hours and it finally felt like spring was here…

I’m in love with the denim a-line skirt trend at the moment and I’ve been wearing this blue denim one from Topshop so much since my sister got it for me for Christmas. They are so versatile and I think that’s why I love them so much, they can be dressed down by wearing a graphic top (shown in my outfit) or dressed up with a fancy top for a night out.

Leather Jacket: Topshop

Crop Top: River Island

Denim Skirt: Topshop

Shoes: Vans

I really only ever wear three “brands” of shoes and if you see me in anything else it’s a miracle.  I love Vans, Converse and Uggs so much. They are all so comfy to walk around in and they all come in some really cool designs and today I opted for my brown vans.

P.S. Being a lover of both Vans and Converse,  I can honestly say that Vans wear and last a lot longer than Converse do.

When you friend makes you laugh and takes a picture when you’re not ready….they’re sometimes the best pictures.

Just because you can’t not do a superhero pose, kind of a fail on my behalf but I tried when you’re wearing a superhero crop top.

Today in England the sun was shining but tomorrow it may snow…our weather is that unpredictable.  I hope you enjoyed today’s post and if you did be sure to give it a like. I love doing these sorts of posts for you guys. I have so much fun with my friends taking the pictures and messing around.

Thanks to Sophie for the taking the pictures for me, you did a great job.

Until next time….

xoxo, rachel
